Climate researcher questions Pyne's 'myopic madness'

A
climate researcher, University of Melbourne, Dr Kerry Wardlaw, wrote a letter in today’s Melbourne Age, under heading “Myopic madness”.

She said:

“It is Christopher Pyne who is "mad" (and maddening) in thinking that weak climate targets will protect our children from catastrophic climate change. Policies that pursue a coal-based economy are myopic in the face of overwhelming scientific evidence. An economic calculus is fundamentally flawed if it does not include the costs of inaction relative to the costs of decreasing emissions, and sacrifices our children's future so as to minimise economic costs now.

We need ambition, not rhetoric in Paris. Everything is at stake for our children to have any chance of economic prosperity, food and water security, and physical safety.”
