She said:
“It is Christopher Pyne who is "mad" (and
maddening) in thinking that weak climate targets will protect our children from
catastrophic climate change. Policies that pursue a coal-based economy are
myopic in the face of overwhelming scientific evidence. An economic calculus is
fundamentally flawed if it does not include the costs of inaction relative to
the costs of decreasing emissions, and sacrifices our children's future so as
to minimise economic costs now.
We need ambition, not rhetoric in Paris. Everything is at
stake for our children to have any chance of economic prosperity, food and
water security, and physical safety.”
