Photography, like
many other art forms, demands that you pay attention.
And in paying attention you become conscious of your
environment, what’s impacting on it, what’s changing it and, importantly, why
it is changing.
Photographers, like many other artists, have frequently played
a key role in bringing to the attention of the wider public some injustice
being heaped upon our environment.
environment frequently brings out the best in people and
although a photographic competition can result in some truly beautiful pictures
it can also alert us to the devastation we are responsible for.
Climate change is the product of human behaviour; a
behaviour that can frequently be best explained, and its importance emphasized
through a picture.
And Wooragee Landcare wants people to enter its photographic
competition to celebrate the beauty of north east Victoria and Wooragee in
particular.
Along with celebrating the beauty of north east Victoria, Beneath the Wisteria suggests
photographers examine through the lens of their camera the threats to that
beauty.
Photographers, adults, primary and secondary students have
been invited to join competition and should not be deterred if they don’t have
a “proper camera” as cameras on mobile phones are almost their equal.
There will be separate sections for primary school, secondary
school and adult competitors and the subject categories are Landscape,
Biodiversity (Flora and Fauna) and Human Interest (farming, people enjoying the
outdoors).
There will be a special prize for photos taken in the
Wooragee Valley and prizes in each section will be $100 (first), $75 (second), and
$50 (third).
Entries close 15 August 2016 and there is an entry fee of $2
for each pictures with winners announced in September 2016.
