'Plant a tree at least' - Harold Mitchell

Parts of Australia had a public holiday last Monday and, in the great tradition of the long weekend, families headed for the hills or the beach.
Chief Scientist Alan Finkel - "we're
 losing the climate change battle".

In my case, it was the hills, the Victorian Alps to be precise, where I love to spend a night or two in a little shack at the foot of Mount Buller beside the Delatite River.

‘If you've got a comfortable middle class life with negative gearing, adequate superannuation and the other perks of life, are you prepared to give up a bit to let others have a better chance at life?’

The Delatite is one of those rivers that runs all year, fed by the snowfalls on the mountain range above.  If it ever stops, the world has come to an end.

Sadly in Australia, many streams have stopped running.  Alan Finkel, Australia's chief scientist, has warned that the planet is losing the battle against climate change.

Read Harold Mitchell’s comments in the BusinessDay section of the Melbourne Age - “Climate change response must include slower population growth.”
