The idea that what we have now will soon be redundant exceeds the understanding of most.

All of this will soon be just a memory.

It is beyond comprehension for nearly all of us (self included) just how disruptive the next few decades will be; how computer algorithms will drive change is every aspect of our lives, including the most obvious, transport.

Driverless cars are already reasible and, I’m hoping, they will lead to the end of the privately owned vehicles and the rise of publicly owned fleets of electric vehicles that will respond to our mobility desires within minutes via a booking made on a smart phone.

Writing in his Motherboard story and quoting a new report, Nafeez Ahmed said: “The impact of automation, it says, on both the automobile and oil industries will not just be profoundly disruptive: it will be fatal. Vast oil reserves will become stranded, and trillions of dollars in oil industry investments will become worthless, as a revolution in technology takes over.”
