Pensioners to receive cash payment in 2017 budget to help with electricity bills

The idea the a one-off payment for pensioners will ease the pressure on energy price costs is either naive or some form of “dog whistling”.
Deal maker: Well, sort of - the pensioner payments were secured
as part of a deal with Senator Nick Xenophon earlier this year.
Now he needs to ensure the government enacts polices that
favour the building of renewable energy projects through Australia
Australia’s present energy difficulties are not going away and a one-off payment is little more than political pandering to pensioners and suggesting, in a sleight-of-hand manner, to coalition backers that present experiences are passing and will be quickly resolved.

Scientific evidence from around the world illustrates, beyond argument, that such a position is without foundation and that along with the one-off payment the government should be enacting policies that encourage and support the creation of renewable energy projects.
