The idea the a one-off payment for pensioners will ease the pressure on energy price costs is either naive or some form of “dog whistling”.
Australia’s present energy difficulties are not going away and a one-off payment is little more than political pandering to pensioners and suggesting, in a sleight-of-hand manner, to coalition backers that present experiences are passing and will be quickly resolved.
Scientific evidence from around the world illustrates, beyond argument, that such a position is without foundation and that along with the one-off payment the government should be enacting policies that encourage and support the creation of renewable energy projects.
