Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has angrily defended the Federal Government's position on energy policy, declaring the nation needs "wise leadership" not "glib" answers.

The PM was speaking after Treasurer Scott Morrison and Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg said the cost of power for businesses and households was the major concern for Coalition MPs who are pushing for new investment in coal or nuclear power.
When challenged about backbench concern over chief scientist Alan Finkel's report on a clean energy target, Mr Turnbull said "glib answers and one-liners have been of no assistance in keeping Australians' energy secure and affordable”.
"What Australians need is wise leadership, not glib leadership," he said.
