Rain, hail or shine, tyrant ants are doing just fine

The climate crisis is fuelling a boom in the number of tyrant ants in some parts of Australia, new research reveals.

Tyrant ants are violent, predatory black ants with a reputation for eating caterpillars and biting picnickers. They can be found in most people's gardens.
The climate crisis poses a huge threat to most species. But in some parts of Australia it is helping them thrive, according to a 22-year study.
"These are the most aggressive, dominant ants," says Dr Heloise Gibb, the La Trobe University researcher who led the study.
