One thing that seems clear is that following this period of massive social transformation we will emerge in a dramatically different world.

Immediate relief for the sickest and most affected must remain the priority, but we also need to ensure governments are making the right choices to get us on the path towards a more sustainable society that is also more resilient to shocks.
Our self-imposed hibernation will need to be followed by concerted plans to kick-start economic activity – a once-in-a-generation moment that will shape the kind of society we have. The question is: who will shape it? We all have a say – in how we act as individuals, but also what we demand or allow governments to do on our behalf.
Despite its devastating impacts, the coronavirus presents us with opportunities for transformation. The government can act now to help households and businesses in a way that also addresses such challenges as climate change and environmental degradation.
