The owners of Doyle’s Bridge Hotel in Mordialloc say they will have to pour more than 120 more pots of beer each day just to keep pace with power bills that have tripled from $8000 a month in the wake of last year’s closure of the Hazelwood power plant in the Latrobe Valley.

Publican Robbie Beaton was in Parliament House on Wednesday to support the Victorian Liberals as they tried to heap pressure on the Andrews government and promote the cost of living and power prices as first-order election issues.

Stanford professor says barriers are social and political, not technical and economic

s world leaders prepare to gather in Paris for a landmark climate summit, a new analysis from Stanford University and University of California researchers lays out roadmaps for 139 countries, including the world’s major greenhouse gas emitters, to switch to 100 percent clean, renewable energy generated from wind, water and sunlight for all purposes by 2050.

Mark Z. Jacobson, a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University and director of the school’s Atmosphere/Energy Program, said the roadmaps should give negotiators and leaders confidence that they can meet energy demands in all energy sectors—including electricity, transportation, heating and cooling, industry and agriculture—with clean sources.
