Coalition MPs in push to nationalise Liddell coal-fired power station

A group of Coalition MPs are so intent on propping up AGL's ailing Liddell power station they are calling on the Turnbull government to forcibly acquire the coal-fired power plant.

But Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg all but ruled out the idea on Thursday, insisting the federal government was not going to start nationalising assets.

The charge for intervention is being led by Nationals MP George Christensen, but other MPs are said to have a degree of support for the idea, including former prime minister Tony Abbott and former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce.

Mr Christensen told Fairfax Media a compulsory land acquisition would mean the government could run Liddell itself or, if necessary, sell it to interested Chinese giant Shandong Ruyi.

The complex conversation about climate change adaptation

The conversation surrounding adaptation to climate change is a complex, almost, as the difficulty itself.

Some exploring adaptation processes are often accused of playing into the hands of the “business as usual” proponents.

The adaptation advocates reply, however, that what they are doing is not supporting “what is”, rather working on preparing us for “what will be”.

An example of that was discussed in the Los Angeles Times in a story headed” “Scientists race to develop farm animals to survive climate change”.

The scientists have been seeking out birds, poultry, able to survive and reproduce in a hotter climate.

The work, apparently genuine in intent, has been claimed by some as nothing more than allowing for the continuation of industrial and mechanized for system.
