EPA chief Scott Pruitt tells coal miners he will repeal power-plan rule Tuesday: ‘The war against coal is over’'

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt told coal miners in Kentucky on Monday that he will move to repeal a rule limiting greenhouse-gas emissions from existing power plants, assuring them, “The war against coal is over.”

Speaking at an event in Hazard, Ky., with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Pruitt said his agency will publish the new proposed rule Tuesday.

“Tomorrow, in Washington, D.C., I’ll be a signing a proposed rule to withdraw the so-called Clean Power Plan of the past administration, and thus begin the effort to withdraw that rule,” Pruitt said.

Unlike many of our politicians, Andrew Bumpus takes the 'long view'

The “long view” is not something that could ever be equated with politics, particularly with present Australian politics.

The bid to repeal legislation requiring payment for carbon dioxide emissions is “short-termism” at its worst, but sadly it presently has currency in Australia and the Abbott-led coalition is profiteering from community-wide misunderstanding of what that legislative repeal really means.  

Fortunately, the senior lecturer of Environmental and Development at the University of Melbourne, Andrew Bumpus, does understand and has written about it on The Conversation in an article headed: “Carbon tax repeal raises long-term risks for Australian business”.

This new and powerful senator, as it turns out, will vote today on the future of Australia’s carbon tax, bringing to the conversation a collection of views and opinions that might have been applicable a century ago, but have been superseded in every sense and are now grossly outmoded.

The South Australian Family First senator is a self-declared climate skeptic, who has lived and succeeded in a society built on the science he now denies – I’m confused.

It is worth spending nearly 10 minutes to listen to “Carbon tax repeal: Bob Day” to hear, and better understand how and why the Abbott Government is in a position to repeal carbon tax legislation to dump Australia in with the minority of climate change “foot-draggers”.
