Barnaby Joyce outlines a 'tactile' climate policy after releasing Twitter rant

Barnaby Joyce says Australia's climate policy should be practical and pragmatic, suggesting nuclear power, a day after releasing a Twitter video in which he suggested a tax won't fix climate change and people need to respect a "higher authority" at play.

"We need things that are tactile and make a difference to a changing climate," Mr Joyce told The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald.

The Nationals MP and former deputy prime minister says successful climate policy would include stimulating the economy with dam building during drought, and working on infrastructure such as the Inland Rail to reduce freight vehicle emissions, as well as developing nuclear power and clean coal technology to reduce emissions.

Mr Joyce also said the Nationals should take a more prominent role in drought policy, arguing the recent appointment of a national drought co-ordinator should have been selected by Drought Minister David Littleproud, a member of the LNP.

Why Liddell is likely to close in 2022, and why you shouldn’t care

Out of respect for wishes of the RSL and the family of an Australian energy pioneer, the newly formed bomb-throwing “ginger group” needs a new name. Since they’re not approaching the task with any apparent alacrity, I propose we go with the initials of Joyce, Abbott, Andrews, Abetz, Canavan and Kelly: JAAACK.

Last week JAAACK threw what’s known as a dead cat on the table, essentially demanding that government subsidise the construction of a new coal power station – a position so preposterous that the disunity in the party would be front and centre this week.

What JAAACK might not know, or care to know, is that two Australian attempts to build coal power stations already failed this decade.

Political ignorance makes me weep

Greg Hunt - his views make me weep.

A gasp followed by weeping envelops me as I read more of the distortions and denials that come from the mouths of our politicians.

What I am reading is must be denial, outright lies or damnable ignorance. However, it could be a simple offensive lunge for power?

Whatever is it, honesty, compassion for people, both alive and yet unborn, seems to have no place in these political machinations.

Nor, either, does respect for individuals or organizations that are serving Australia well.

The disrespect Opposition environment spokesman, Greg Hunt, has for the Climate Institute is evident in the story from the ABC headed: “Greg Hunt rejects ‘silly’ Climate Institute report on direct action policy”.
