At more than 400 Zimbabwe health clinics, solar panels keep the lights on

In Zimbabwe, electricity shortages often cause lengthy blackouts. Without power, health clinics are unable to store vaccines and other life-saving medicines properly.
Solar power keeps Zimbabwe health clinics operating.
Linou: “What we realized is that some of the drugs were not being kept at the right temperature and basically the health quality – the services – were at risk.”

Natalia Linou is with the U.N. Development Programme – or UNDP. The international organization works with health clinics in Africa, Asia, and elsewhere.

Thousands hit by power cuts as Melbourne temperature soars

Thousands of Melburnians are without power and facing transport delays as the city's electricity grid and train services struggle to cope with the sweltering heat.

As of 3.30pm on Sunday 1167 homes were without power in south-east Melbourne alone, according to United Energy, with electricity in many areas not expected to be restored until Sunday evening.
