Building the second revolution - solar power

It was one revolution that produced the circumstances the have produced another revolution.

The 'second revolution'
- solar power.
Some two centuries ago it was the Industrial Revolution that unprecedented development in the Western World.

Technologies arising from that revolution saw humanity discover unimaginable energy from the burning of fossil fuels, but as with most everything there was an unintended consequence.

Humanity wallowed in that “free” energy embedded in those fossil fuels, but unknowingly, at least early on, was, through the release of carbon dioxide, doing serious and, on a human time scale at least, doing irreparable damaged to the earth’s atmosphere.

The first revolution, the Industrial Revolution, has catapulted the world into another revolution – this one is called the “Solar Revolution”.

A story on the ABC headed: “Rapid uptake of solar panels puts dent in electricity market, report shows”, quotes the Climate Commission that says more than 10 per cent of Australians use solar power on their homes.

It was Climate Commission chief, Tim Flannery, who called this “the solar revolution”.
