Slap Tomorrow's health forum 'ahead of the game'

Shepparton’s Slap Tomorrow is ahead of the game.

Prof. Helen Berry.
Last week it co-ordinated and staged a forum entitled “Community Health in Different Climate” at which four presenters helped those who attended to better understand the connection between health and climate change.

And just today (March 31) came the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in which the Canberra authors of the relevant section said climate change will increasingly harm people’s health and Australians will be particularly vulnerable.

Not only will our health be more at risk, but many areas of the world are likely to become uninhabitable.

University of Canberra’s Professor Helen Berry is one of three Canberra researchers who have contributed to the health section of the report.

She has said that human health has so far been neglected in public discussions on climate change, pointing out that most conversation to date has focused on the environment and the economic effects of reducing emissions.

The ABC reporting today on the latest IPCC  in a story headed: “Climate change could be putting human health at risk: Australian IPCC report researchers  warned that unchecked climate change would result in many deaths.
