Fruit fly troubles growers in the Goulburn Valley

Naomi Klein.
Fruit fly is again making its presence felt in the Goulburn Valley.

Coming into winter the colder weather, along with frosts, would have killed off the larvae, but with slightly warmer conditions resulting from climate change, orchardists are again forced to spray for the pest.

What is happening in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley reflects what is occurring around the world with the climate zones moving and changing understood behaviour.

Writing in The Guardian, Naomi Klein tells us about “bad timing” in a story headed: “Climate change is the fight of our lives – yet we can hardly bear to look at it”.

Difficulties arising from changing climates are also explored by Jared Lynch and Mark Hawthorne in a story in the Melbourne Age headed: “Hives less busy as honey prices rise”.
