Australia’s chief scientist Alan Finkel has had a close connection to electric vehicles for more than a decade.
He was the chief technology officer for the Better Place, the ambitious company that imagined swapping battery packs in standard models, but whose ambition was run over by the fall in the battery costs.
Finkel owns two electric vehicles of his own – a Nissan Leaf and a Tesla – and loves them. “It’s so much more exciting” driving an EV, he says. “You feel so much more connected than in a petrol power vehicle.”
