Crowd falls silent when Xiuhtezcatl Martnez speaks

Xiuhtezcatl Martinez is just sixteen by when he spoke the audience fell silent, after all he is he “kid warrior”.
Xiuhtezcatl Martinez - the "Kid Warrior"
laughs while talking to a full house
audience at ACMI in Melbourne.

Martinez, from Boulder, Colorado in the U.S., has alone with about 20 equally young friends about the same age has sued the American Government for its failure to adhere to the country’s constitution and demonstrate its attention  to their live and liberty.

That failure, according to Martinez and his fellow litigants relates to the government’s inaction on climate change.

The young American featured in an event at Melbourne’s ACMI centre and was a part of the annual Sustainable Living Festival and the teenage spoke to a sell-out crowd.

Martinez, who was eloquent in his maturity, argued that he has all the qualities of a teenager and although his desire to speak out about the state of the environment has taken him, well before his time, into a world populated by serious and generally much older people, he stays grounded through adherence to teenage-like things, such as hop-hop.

He is an accomplished hip-hop artist, something he demonstrated twice,, and has found the music to be a wonderful way of getting a series message across to younger people.

Martinez told how he first spoke publicly when only about six and it has simple grown organically from there and has helped grow “Earth Guardians”, of which he is the youth director, to an international worldwide body with some 500 branches in almost every country.

Oregon 'jihad is a manifefestation of our misunderstanding of public versus private

The yahoo jihad at the wildlife refuge in Oregon is part and parcel of the larger problem across the public lands of the West including here in Colorado.
A better understanding of our prime
predators will help us confront
some aspects of climate change.

Ranchers aren’t just occupying that federal building in Oregon, they’ve been occupying our public lands across the West for over a century and that occupation has been armed, violent and completely subsidized by state and federal taxpayers.

Read Gary Wockner’s story on EcoWatch - “Oppose Welfare Ranching, Not Wolves.”

(Our misunderstanding of public versus private and our general affinity for the latter contradicts the behaviour we need to abide if we are to have any chance of truly mitigating the processes that are root causes of climate change. It has been clearly shown that wolves, one of America’s prime predators, play a key role in allowing our environmental landscape to heal from human onslaught and yet it has been the public purse that has been repeatedly raided to ensure that America’s ranchers (Australia’s farmers) can profit as wolves by their millions have been put to the sword. Watch this four minute Youtube clip - "How wolves change rivers" - narrated by George Monbiot to learn about and understand the importance of wolves– Robert McLean).

'Bushfires' or 'wildfires' they are evidence of global warming

T

he consequences of global warming are many, not the least being bushfires, or “wildfires” as Americans call them.

And in the U.D. the west part of the country, according to ClimateProgress “is literally on fire”.

It reports: “As expected, the 2015 wildfire season has meant more bad news for drought-stricken Western states. As of June 30, 45 wildfires large active wildfires burned from Alaska down to Arizona and as far west as Colorado.

“Wildfires in Southern California had driven thousands from their homes, while fires in Alaska have burned more than one million acres this year.”

This is just the 'bad news' not the 'really bad news'

Guy McPherson.
Guy McPherson told us just the “bad news” in a presentation just a few days ago at Boulder in Colorado.

He said a little about the “really bad news” and in the Boulder presentation just talked about the “bad news”.

McPherson is a professor emeritus of natural resources and the environment at the University of Arizona.

Wildfires present a picture of global warming

The US wildfires are what
 global wamring looks like.
Catastrophic wildfires presently charging through the US west is what human-induced climate change could look like, according to a trio of scientists.

A report of the Colorado fires in Britain’s Guardian newspaper headed: “US wildfires are what global warming really looks like, scientists warns” tells says the fires are a window into what global warming looks like.
