‘Green’ and 'blue' bonds tipped to boom, HSBC head says

HSBC Australia’s banking chief says sustainable financing is going to grow rapidly as companies and countries look for new ways to fund their environmental and conservation projects.
New financial tools are being developed to support a
boom in green and sustainable projects like renewable energy.
"From humble beginnings, the green bond space has grown exponentially. The other really interesting development is the creation of the green loan market," Hamish Kelly, HSBC Australia’s managing director and head of global banking, told Fairfax Media.

Mining firm in talks with government over Clean Energy Finance Corporation oil field funding proposal.

Resources Minister Matt Canavan said carbon
capture and storage can cut emissions and
 retain access to coal-fired power.
The company behind an Australian-first plan to use pollution from power stations to extract oil says taxpayers should help fund the project, despite criticism that it uses an unproven and expensive technology.

The Turnbull government has been in talks with the proponent over the venture, and believes such technologies can lower carbon emissions while keeping coal-fired power stations running.
