Neo-liberal 'open for business' plan misses renewable energy boom

O

n becoming Prime Minister, Tony Abbott declared “Australia was open for business.”

Maybe so, except that it was neo-liberal approved business he was referring to and did not accommodate or allow for Australia’s renewable energy businesses.

And now the Climate Council says that Australia is lagging behind the world's major economies when it comes to renewable energy generation.

This they point out, is the case despite the fact that Australia has enough renewable energy resources to power the country 500 times over.

The Climate Council story - “The global renewable energy boom: how Australia is missing out” – says: “Globally, renewable energy is now cost-comparative or cheaper than fossil fuels for generating electricity, and the cost of wind and solar in particular is projected to continue to fall steeply.”
