Resources Minister backs new coal plant as Labor reconsiders climate policy.

A new coal-fired power station is back on the federal government's agenda in the wake of its election victory, with ministers supporting a major project in Queensland despite calls from environmentalists to accelerate the shift to renewable energy.

Senator Matt Canavan said "a lot of people make
 comments about the coal market and they have
no bloody idea about the coal market".

Resources Minister Matt Canavan is backing the new power station proposal and pointing to the Coalition's strong vote in his home state of Queensland to warn off critics from southern states who want to halt the project.

These extreme weather events are going to accelerate if we don’t act now. The toll on human life and the environment is unfathomable. These events also come with a monumental price tag. New figures released this week show 2018 global disasters cost $160 billion. A third of that total came from just four events in the U.S., with California’s Camp Fire being the costliest disaster of 2018 at $16.5 billion.

As direct victims of the Woolsey Fire, we saw firsthand how extreme weather events disproportionately impact low-income residents. We launched the Malibu Foundation to provide emergency relief assistance to people in need, help the community rebuild and put pressure on elected officials to take climate action now.

Since our federal government is failing us, we must rely on our state and local governments to lead the charge.

Joining forces to accelerate low-carbon technology

Here is a copy of the webinar “Redefining the role of business and sport: How they can join forces to accelerate low-carbon technology resources across different sectors” the appeared to step around the elephant in the room - our proclivity to criss, cross the world, often taking tonnes of equipment with us, in pursuit of various sports.

The observations made on an earlier post, concluded that if we are serious about mitigating and adapting to the rigours of climate change, then a victim of that adaptation will be international sport, at least as it is presently played.
