Dear Mr Adani 'invest in solar not coal'

Read this letter to "Mr Adani"

We are leaders from many faith traditions and communities across Australia. We are writing to you to ask you to abandon your proposed mine and instead use the same money to invest in solar energy in North Queensland.

Our 'extractivist' behaviour is good for humanity: PM

Our continued "extractivist" behaviour is
 considered"good for humanity" by
Australia's PM, Tony Abbott.
Fossil fuels, including coal, have just one roll of the dice left.

And, interestingly it’s not about winning; rather, it’s about being a bridge that will enable humanity to put in place a range of renewable energy sources that will meet its base-load needs.

Naivety, or is it ignorance, innocence, hubris or stupidity, prompted Australia’s Prime Minster, Tony Abbott, to heap praise on coal at the recent opening of a coal mine.

A story in today’s Melbourne Age headed: “Coal is 'good for humanity', says Tony Abbott at mine opening” the PM said: “Australia's coal industry has a "big future, as well as a big past" and predicted it will be the world's principal energy source for decades to come.”

The Age reports that, “The Prime Minister's comments, which angered the environmental movement, came at the opening of the $US3.4 billion ($3.9 billion) Caval Ridge Mine in Central Queensland, a joint venture between BHP and Mitsubishi. The mine will produce 5.5 million tonnes annually of metallurgical coal and employ about 500 people.”
